“Life is all about timing… the unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable become available, the unattainable… attainable. Have the patience, wait it out it’s all about timing.”    ~ Stacey Charter

Timing is everything.  A wise leader carefully observes, attentively listens and actively seeks advice in order to gain understanding before charging into an opportunity.  Good timing is prompted by informed intuition gained from a heightened sense of awareness.  The right thing done at the right time will usually result in success.  It may even create a breakthrough to an even greater opportunity.  Bad timing is due to a lack of awareness or focus.

When it comes to the importance of timing, I think of the person who plays the big brass cymbals in an orchestra.  If he doesn’t focus on his timing; it won’t go well for him or the performance.  As a leader, you must not only know the answer to the “what” and “why” of your actions, you must also know “when” to take action.  Here is a poetic passage filled with perspective and insight from King Solomon about how there is a right time for everything:

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.  A time to be born and a time to die.  A time to plant and a time to harvest.  A time to kill and a time to heal.  A time to tear down and a time to build up.  A time to cry and a time to laugh.  A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.  A time to embrace and a time to turn away.  A time to search and a time to quit searching.  A time to keep and a time to throw away.  A time to tear and a time to mend.  A time to be quiet and a time to speak.  A time to love and a time to hate.  A time for war and a time for peace.  What do people really get for all their hard work?  I have seen the burden God has placed on us all. Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time.  (Eccl. 3:1-10 NLT)

Let me encourage you to meditate on this passage today and ask God to grant you wisdom and discernment in the area of timing.  There is no magic formula to follow.  The key to having good timing can be found in patience and understanding combined with focused awareness and the courage to act.  Be aware and be bold.  Now is always the best time to pray for wisdom and to seek understanding about how to make the right decision at the right time. His timing is the best timing.

As a Christian leader, depend on the ministry of the Holy Spirit to guide you in your decisions today.  Evaluate the situation, listen carefully, seek wise advice, pray and trust in the Lord for good timing.
