“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.” ~ Andrew Carnegie
One is too small a number to do anything great. We need other people to help achieve our vision. In order to be successful, you will need at least three things: The right people, the right resources and the leadership capacity to lead at the next level. Without all three you will never achieve sustainable success.
Asking “who” and “why” is very important when building a winning team. Character and competence must work together on the road to success. Be sure to build your team with the right people who will share your passion, vision and values. To maintain a healthy team culture, you must only employ people who match you well. When it comes to skills and abilities, look for people who are good at things you aren’t as good at. To build a winning team, we need quality people of sound character and superior competence.
You will also need the right resources. Be sure you have adequate funding, the right tools and equipment along with the proper training and support for your team to succeed. As their leader, you must grow yourself in knowledge and skills, and be ready to lead at the next level. Everything rises and falls on leadership and you cannot take your people or your organization beyond your capacity as a leader. You must grow if you are going to lead a winning team.
We can see these principles in the leadership of Moses as he set out to build the Tabernacle.
“Now Bezalel and Oholiab, and every skillful person in whom the LORD has put skill and understanding to know how to perform all the work in the construction of the sanctuary, shall perform in accordance with all that the LORD has commanded.” (Exodus 36:1 NASB)
Don’t miss the phrase about how God has prepared the right people to be on your team: “Every skillful person in whom the LORD has put skill and understanding.” Wow! The right people and the right resources already existed for what God wanted to accomplish through Moses. God has placed “the right people” around you, all you have to do as a leader is to find them and connect to them.
Pray today that God will grant you great patience and discernment to identify the right people He has prepared for your team. Growing yourself as a leader and recruiting the right people and securing the right resources will make all the difference in how successful your team can be.
Be intentional today about building a winning team. When you see God accomplishing great things through the team He brings together, be sure to give Him the glory. True success is found in the satisfaction of God working through you and your team to accomplish His purpose.
