Big dreams can be exciting! Big dreams can also be scary and intimidating. Everyone has a dream of some ideal they would like to see become a reality. Most people have “normal size” dreams that are safe and easy to reach. Some people, however, dream big, really big. These dreams can be so big that when they share their vision with others, they get a “you gotta be crazy” reaction.
The biggest question that needs to be asked about big dreams is: Did God give you the dream? Lots of people, who dream big, do so for their own gain and advancement without much consideration for God’s will in their life. Many will proclaim their “If you believe it you can achieve it” philosophy. These people, who dream of great things to accomplish in their lifetime, are actually thinking small when compared to those who set goals in the context of eternity. King Solomon had a big dream, and his dream was given to him by God.
I am about to build a Temple to honor the name of the LORD my God… This must be a magnificent Temple because our God is greater than all other gods. But who can really build him a worthy home? Not even the highest heavens can contain him! So who am I to consider building a Temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices to him? (2 Chronicles 2:4-6 NLT)
Big dreams need a lot of people to work together in order to see the dream accomplished. No one can do great things alone; they must enlist the help of others. Solomon had to enlist the help of thousands of skilled laborers to see his dream come true. They all got to play a role in Solomon’s big God-sized dream. Anyone can be a part of a big dream. The big dream you are working on can be your dream or someone else’s big dream that you join into because you can see the vision too.
The most important thing to consider is God’s will for you concerning the dream. If it’s your dream, that’s one thing, but if it’s God’s dream coming alive in you, that’s at a whole different level of “big”. When God is in it, it doesn’t matter how big the dream is or how crazy it may sound to others, it will be accomplished. Remember, a God-sized dream may be even bigger than your lifetime; you may play an important part in a dream that will become a reality well into a future beyond you.
Stay faithful to the dream and trust God for the results. What big dream does God have you working on today? If you can do it on your own, it’s not a God-sized dream. Dream big!
